Sunrise, the largest private telecom provider in Switzerland, teamed up with icapps to strengthen its Yallo TV platform and launch MySports, a new digital experience for hockey fans. Our team stepped in with native and cross-platform expertise to upgrade their digital ecosystem across web, mobile, and TV.
Challenge
Sunrise needed to improve its existing Yallo TV service and develop a new digital product, MySports, to better serve hockey fans across Switzerland. The goal: deliver seamless streaming experiences across mobile, web, and smart TV platforms.
However, the starting point wasn’t simple. Outdated technology (including an older Gatsby version), siloed systems, and the need for scalable architecture created friction in delivering the performance and quality Sunrise aimed for. They were looking for a flexible, knowledgeable partner who could embed seamlessly into their team and help build modern apps fast.
The solution
We brought technical expertise and strategic support to both the Yallo and MySports projects. Our developers worked side-by-side with Sunrise's internal teams, sharing responsibility for ongoing product development and architecture decisions.
Our key contributions:
- Improved Yallo TV’s streaming experience across mobile, web, and smart TV
- Developed the brand-new MySports platform from scratch for hockey fans
- Migrated legacy code (e.g., Gatsby) to modern frameworks to ensure scalability
- Integrated smoothly with backend and design teams to streamline delivery
- Worked with React and React Native for flexible, future-proof tech foundations
Our approach
From day one, this wasn’t a typical client-supplier setup. Our developers became an integral part of the Sunrise team. We participated in daily stand-ups, helped make strategic tech decisions, and built alongside their product and backend stakeholders.
A flat hierarchy at Sunrise meant our ideas were heard, discussed, and acted on fast. The collaborative mindset, even across remote locations, resulted in high efficiency and trust. We aligned closely with their technical leads, which was key in navigating platform migrations and eliminating technical debt.
Methodologies used:
- Embedded agile development
- Cross-functional team setup
- Continuous delivery and codebase improvements
- Close collaboration between frontend, backend, and business teams

The outcome
- A smoother, more reliable TV experience for Yallo users on mobile and web
- A fully functioning MySports platform for hockey fans, delivered from the ground up
- Streamlined collaboration, with our developers seamlessly integrated into Sunrise’s workflow
- Major reduction of technical debt through a clean, modern codebase
