The issue

Bridgestone wanted an application that informs drivers about their car’s health.

What we did

We created an app that is all about eliminating the challenges that come with maintaining a car. It offers drivers a seamless and safe journey by anticipating, detecting and resolving vehicle-related events.

My speedy, predictive tyre and vehicle maintenance app

When it comes to tyres, they use the latest technologies to deliver premium products. The company is also a pioneer in digital mobility solutions and applications. Their apps bring efficiency, convenience and peace of mind to drivers, fleet managers and owners. They have a Digital Garage, which is an open innovation platform where they combine new sets of vehicle data with emerging technologies to develop the latest generation of mobility solutions.

My Speedy

Bridgestone wanted an application that informs drivers about their car’s health. That’s why they contacted us. They had an extensive list of findings gathered from all the market research they had done and needed our help to refine their concept.

My Speedy is about eliminating the challenges that come with maintaining a car. It offers drivers a seamless and safe journey by anticipating, detecting, and resolving vehicle-related events. And all this at the right time and price, and in the most convenient way possible.

“We deliberately chose icapps to develop the UX and UI designs of My Speedy. We made this decision because we believe it’s important to have a partner who actively thinks along and challenges our own ideas. icapps was very comfortable doing this throughout the entire development of the application”, says Johan Van Langendonck, Head of Solutions Strategy at EMEA. “icapps used every workshop or demo as an opportunity to improve our concept based on their experience and frequent direct contact with our customers and stakeholders.”

How does the app work?

A measuring device is installed in the car and sends data to Bridgestone’s cloud platform, where a number of algorithms translate vehicle data into actionable insights regarding the car’s health. These insights are shared with the user in the form of prescriptive advice whenever the car requires attention.

Once the notification is received, the app enables the user to make an appointment with a garage. Alternatively, he can decide to carry out simple maintenance himself using instructions provided by the app.

Short deadline

Before we got started on transforming the ideas into wireframes, we needed to fully understand the world of the user. So we decided to visit the Speedy shops in Paris. We found out most users do not understand how a car operates internally. That’s why we focused on explaining why a certain part has to be replaced or why maintenance is important and required.

Since we had to finish the designs within 12 weeks, we needed to be quick, efficient and flexible. We agreed with the customer to work in very short iterations. We met every week to make sure we could process feedback immediately.

To ensure a fast design flow, it was very important to assimilate all decisions rapidly and concretely. This wasn’t always easy, since several parties were cooperating on one app at the same time. We had to communicate between Rome, Paris, and Belgium, yet it felt like we were all working closely together. Johan explains: “icapps’ pragmatic approach and flexibility allowed us to keep the entire project ‘on track’, despite a series of delays on other workstreams.”

Just the beginning

Bridgestone’s wanted to explore the potential an app could bring for Speedy, an independent multi-brand automobile garage.

We are sure My Speedy is just the first of many digital developments within Bridgestone. We are excited to be their partner in their future endeavors.

“We are very satisfied with choosing icapps and we are looking forward to our next collaboration,” Johan concludes.
