Signify is the new company name of Philips Lighting. They are world leader in lighting by offering their customers high quality, energy efficient products, systems and services. Signify is the world leader in lighting for professionals, consumers and lighting for the Internet of Things.

The issue

Since Philips Hue offers a rather new way of using light, they needed an in-store app to demonstrate the concept and show potential customers the flexibility and simplicity of the smart lighting system. Signify asked us to update the existing app we developed some years ago. But because they wanted to use the app more as a marketing sales tool, this required a different approach.

What we did

Signify asked us to update the existing app we developed some years ago. But because they wanted to use the app more as a marketing sales tool, we adjusted the designs and added extra screens. We changed the look and feel of the app, while some parts have even been completely rewritten.

Pixel perfect

We started by adapting the visuals of the original app, but at the same time we adjusted the designs and added extra screens. We changed the look and feel of the app, while some parts have even been completely rewritten.

In fact, it is now almost impossible to compare the new app with the old one. In a high-end app such as this, even the smallest detail matters. It needed to be pixel perfect!

Trust and feedback

Our close collaboration with Signify was key to the success of this project. Our developers and the designers at Signify exchanged hundreds of sketch files, assets and short movies. Moreover, working with Scrum (as we always do) makes teamwork possible. And not to forget, we held demos every two weeks, sometimes even sooner than that. Signify believes in direct feedback. Our preferred way of working!

When the beta version of the app was launched, the entire team went to Media Markt in Eindhoven to test each feature and get even more insights. A few months later, we decided to launch the beta in several countries. By now, hundreds of stores are using the app.

Let there be light

Signify made it very clear they fully trust us, which is the cornerstone of our strong relationship. And for us? We love challenges! No other app within icapps has been developed with this many animations. We are very proud of this enlightening and classy marketing sales tool!
